Janet Varney from the JV Club podcast. Yes, I FINALLY got my old friend Janet to sit down and chat for a bit. I’ve known her since before she got out of college, when she and her fellow sketch performers (Cole Stratton, David Owen, and Gabriel Diani) were in a group called Totally False People and used to open for my improv group The Riffingtons in the San Francisco Bay Area. Needless to say, she and her compatriots have FAR outstripped my show business career on many fronts and I love it. She’s great and her podcast The JV Club is going great guns.

With The Legend of Korra hitting screens in the US again tonight for the start of Book 3, we thought it would be a great idea to get Korra, or the very lovely lady who plays her, on the site. So our man Todd contacted the wonderful Janet Varney for an interview and she was only too happy to oblige. Star of Better Off Ted and Entourage, Janet has made her way into the hearts of Korra, the latest Avatar in training after the adventures of Ang in the original series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show itself came from left field as no-one ever though Avatar would get a sequel. Then we never thought we'd get a sequel that could live up to the original. Luckily we were wrong on both counts.

THE ELEVENTH DOCTOR!!! Anyone who follows anything I do probably has heard my numerous blabbings about how much I love Doctor Who. After one such blabbing on the tweetstream, I was contacted by Devin Johnson at the BBC who graciously offered to help get Matt on the podcast if at all possible. AND SO IT CAME TO PASS. I would like to smother Devin, Matt Stein and the BBC with an absurd pile of thanks.
Matt Smith loves chess, Alan Partridge and cookies. Every charming character trait you see in the Eleventh Doctor is all Matt. Joining me this episode were fellow Whovians Matt Mira and Janet Varney.
Donal (Long ‘O’) Logue is currently one of my favorite TV shows, “Terriers” (a show not about dogs) on FX. I want many people to watch this show so the network will make more, because that’s how television works. (Somehow, I’ve still managed to make a campaign for a show I have nothing to do with all about me and what I want!) You may also recognize Donal from “Grounded for Life,” “The Tao of Steve,” “Blade,” or from 90’s era MTV as Jimmy the Cab Driver. Janet Varney (“Dinner & a Movie” co-host, SF Sketchfest co-producer and Chris Hardwick co-habitator) also sits in.
